The caste system is generally (but not exclusively) associated with south Asia, particularly India. it can encompass Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Muslim or other religious groups. Castes are social groups where rights are fixed and inherited at birth.
We reported previously on a case (here), when the employer tried unsuccessfully to have a claim struck out on the basis that the employment tribunal had no jurisdiction to consider it.
The tribunal has now found for the claimant, ruling that she was a victim of unlawful harrassment and indirect religious discrimination, in what has been described as a 'landmark decision'.
