According to media reports (here), Clive O’Connell, partner at law firm Goldberg Segalla was filmed by a fan website launching a furious rant after Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday October 31. He followed this up with further adverse remarks on Twitter.
Just over a week later, his law firm tweeted a video message from the managing partner announcing the partnership with Mr O’Connell had been terminated with immediate effect.
The case emphasises how the distinction between work life and private life is becoming more blurred. There are a growing number of cases in which comments made through personal Facebook or Twitter accounts have resulted in disciplinary proceedings or dismissal in the workplace.
