The Leasehold Reform (Amendment) Act has received Royal Assent and is due to come into force on 14 May 2014.

The bill was led through Parliament by ALEP (Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners), of which Moon Beever are proud to be members. The effect of it will be that a notice of claim for a statutory lease extension or for the freehold of a building can be signed on behalf of flat owners.

The Leasehold Reform (Amendment) Act 2014 applies to properties in England but not Wales, and will be of particular benefit to those acting under a power of attorney. A further benefit of the Act should be to obviate challenges made by landlords of the validity of notices on the basis that they are incorrectly signed.
